报告摘要:Transformation optics is a relatively young branch of modern optics dedicated to designing optical devices based on geometrical transformations of space. It has been employed for proposing many interesting devices such as invisibility cloaks, perfect imaging lenses and materials with negative index of refraction. Recently transformation optics has made a great progress in connection with the use of non-Euclidean geometry which brings significant advantages over Euclidean geometry.
In this talk we employ the tools of transformation optics, optical conformal mapping and non-Euclidean geometry to study and design optical devices formed of isotropic spherical media, i.e. the media with spherically symmetric distribution of refractive index. Keeping the description within the framework of geometrical optics, we focus on solving the corresponding inverse scattering problems using the concept of the so-called geodesic lenses. They represent non-Euclidean surfaces equivalent to the spherical media. We employ this approach to deal with the gradient-index lenses embedded in a homogeneous medium and also with the so-called absolute instruments that provide stigmatic imaging of three-dimensional domains.
报告人简介:Martin Sarbort received his Ph.D. in Theoretical Physics and Astrophysics in 2013 at Masaryk University, Brno, Czech Republic. His Ph.D. thesis deals with gradient-index and geodesic lenses using the tools of optical conformal mapping and transformation optics. Currently, he works as a postdoctoral researcher at the Institute of Scientific Instruments, Brno, Czech Republic in the field of laser interferometry and surface metrology.
